It has been confirmed that Consumers for Health Choice (CHC) has paused its 20-year long campaign, Save Our Supplements, as negotiations around Brexit continues.

The leading group for consumers of natural health products across Europe had been successfully campaigning against the European Union’s proposal to introduce unnecessary restrictions on vitamins and mineral supplements by setting maximum permitted levels, therefore saving consumers’ freedom to continue to make informed choices for themselves and their ability to continue to access the health supplements they rely on without obstacles.

However, it has now been decided to pause the campaign.

Michael Peet, Chair of CHC, explained “For over 20 years, we have successfully campaigned to maintain consumer access to safe higher-potency vitamins and mineral supplements. With Brexit, the threat of potential EU legislation removing such products from the market has greatly diminished. We have therefore decided to pause our campaign and will return if/when a threat to the choice of consumers of natural health products arises in future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their ongoing support of our work over the years.”

Consumers for Health Choice is an independent consumer organisation dedicated to fighting for individual rights and freedom of choice in health matters. It believes consumers have the right to access a wide range of natural health care products, including vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal remedies, fish oils and other health foods. Much of its work is in challenging inappropriate regulation to encourage consistency, common sense and good judgement in law making, so that consumers can make informed choices for themselves, without EU interference.
