Dr Michael Dixon has been announced as the speaker at the Health Food Institute’s 40th anniversary lecture and lunch.

The annual lecture and lunch is usually held earlier in the year, but for 2019, to mark the institute’s 40th anniversary, the event is taking place on June 27, and in a new venue of the Museum of Brands, in London. The HFI explained that the move is taking place at the new venue as a reminder of days gone by, saying that it seemed appropriate that a tangible trip down memory lane would blend well with a milestone in the life of the health food trade’s professional body.

As part of the event, Dr Michael Dixon will be speaking on the theme of ‘Creating a healthy future through social prescribing’. Dr Dixon is a GP and National Clinical Lead for Social Prescription (NHS England). He was Chair of the NHS Alliance from 1998-2015 and has been appointed as a Government advisor on GP commissioning. He is a
strong advocate of preventative medicine, healthy living and integrated care.

In his Devon practice, patients are able to directly access a range of health check and self-help initiatives, emergency and maternity services, NHS community services, including podiatry and physiotherapy and, for certain patients and certain conditions, complementary therapies. Its success is demonstrated by his practice’s low referral rates and high scores on all performance indicators.
